Medical Transcription is becoming one of the best careers to be in to work
from home!

Medical Transcription is one of the most rewarding careers you can be in when working from your own home. Not many years ago the method of doing Medical Transcription was by the use of Micro-Cassette Tapes. This put a limit on people getting jobs to do from their home in this profession. The reason for this was because you had to live near the Doctor that you worked for so that you could drop off and pick up the tapes and work that you completed. Now, with technology advancing the way it has over the years with computers the Medical Transcription field has advanced to the digital world. Work can be downloaded from the computer, loaded onto Cd's and even received via a C-Phone.

Digital Transcription has opened up so many doors when it comes to jobs in this career field. You can live in one state and work for a doctor that is hundreds of miles away in another state. The job market is good for this field for working from your own home; the key is to be accurate with your work, organized along with self discipline and most of all to have patience when it comes to the job hunting process. Every MT has to start out from somewhere, which means that the ones with 2+ years experience at one time started out as a New MT. It is not as hard now as it use to be to get into jobs with the technology changing more every day!

There are a lot of different ways to prospect for a new position in this career. One of them would be if you are taking a course that offers Job Placement Assistance to use this, however there are still other ways to get your name out there for Doctors, Hospitals, etc. to consider hiring you on to do their medical transcription.

One way that is not as original as replying to a job posting from online or a newspaper is to create some brochures with some information about the service you can provide, how your services will benefit the Dr. Office (i.e. save them money, time, etc.); as well as put a small version of your resume on one side of the brochure along with a business card inside of the brochure.

If you do not want to try to fit your resume on part of the brochure panels then you can insert a folded copy of your resume inside the brochure.

Take to the Dr. Offices and hand to the Human Resource Department as well as leave in other offices on brochure stands, etc.

Ask around to other MT's to find out if they know of companies that are hiring New MT's as well. Sometimes being referred by someone that works for the company will help get you an interview.

You can even look on the Internet for Medical offices that have physicians' offices listed with their web address, email address, etc. Then forward a cover letter along with your resume to the Doctor's office. If they do not have an email address you can always try using things such as: info, front desk, or appointments then the @ sign and the web address _______.com.

Keep in mind one thing when looking for jobs online, that most Doctors do not post jobs for New / No exp. MT's online anymore. Most will place those jobs directly with the MT Training schools /companies to keep from being over flooded with resumes from people that have not even taken an MT Course and see NO Exp. in the ad and send in resumes for data entry, etc. Therefore, when you see an ad for a 1 yr. exp MT it will not hurt to send in your resume with a cover letter letting them know that while you realize the position is for someone with at least 1+ years; you were hoping that they might keep your resume on file in the event they have future openings for New MT's that you might be considered for.

You would be surprised at the offices that have current ones open at that time that were not posted that will contact you from your cover letter and resume submission, and yes others will get filled away and some maybe even tossed. Yet, all it takes is just one to be interested enough to contact you about hiring you that might land you the job your looking for!

Stay motivated, yet patient. Keep your information organized, and remember that you have 1 chance to make a lasting impression to show them you are capable of getting the work done on time and in an accurate way for their office.
