as Nursing, Medical Billing and Medical Transcription are ones that are not expected to feel the economy downfall. If you are looking for a career that is known to hold strong through both good and bad times, Medical Transcription might be an option to look into. |
As everyone knows, the economy is not at its best right now. Many people are dealing with being laid off from their job or fearing that they might be laid off. It is almost scary to see how many people are without a job in America right now. While the economy is expected to get better over time, it still has a ways to go. One of the great things about careers in the medical field is that these types of jobs do not see as much of the lay offs as other career fields might. Medical Transcription is one of the career fields that is holding strong and continues to grow over time. Even |
in an economy like ours right now, people still need medical care. Please keep in mind that it can take several months to get your foot in the door as an MT. However, your business will grow once you build your reputation for getting your work done on time with accurate results. Physicians often recommend MTs to one another, especially if they see that the MT works hard and goes out of his / her way to provide work well done. |

What is expected of an MT - |
As a Medical Transcriptionist you wear many different hats. While your main job is to transcribe the dictated physician reports there are many other skills you will need. Great listening skills is a must. For example: If a physician dictates that the patient had “no temperature” and seemed to be healing well from surgery; well unless the patient is deceased they would have a temperature. It would be the MTs job to realize that what the physician meant was that the patient had “no fever”. While it is important to remember that you should not ever |
change the meaning of what the physician says, you can use common sense to transcribe the accurate word or phrase as long as it does not change the meaning of the report or diagnosis. Another skill that is important is excellent proof reading and research skills. It is very important to proof read your work before submitting it as the final report to make sure it is as accurate as possible. There will be times that a drug name or diagnosis might sound like something else. This is where your research skills will be useful. You |
can research both drug names or diagnosis and see which one of them the physician is saying. A wonderful research tool is the Internet or Medical reference books. You can usually tell which one they are talking about by listening to the full dictation. If after researching you still are unsure then of course you would flag the report and make a note of it. You never want to “guess” the meaning or drug name. |
