Some new MTs might feel frustrated when starting to look for a job. A lot of the jobs online will say 2+ years experience . This is because so many resumes are sent to positions that say NO experience that do not even know what medical transcription is. This can over whelm the physician’s office, or MT contracting service. There are many jobs out there for new MTs. It just takes time to get your foot in the door. This is not any different than any other new career you might get started in. The main thing is to NOT give up! After spending money and time on your training, you want to continue pursuing getting your foot in the door.
Network with other MTs online and find out who is hiring, open your options to many different type of medical facilities, not just the family doctor. Many different types of places can use MTs. These can be radiology out patient services, dentists, oral surgeons, plastic surgeons, and the list goes on and on… Use your mind and be creative with how your services can be of use to those in the medical field. |

Make sure your resume is professional looking and has no grammar errors. Another way to ad things to your resume is to volunteer for an internship for a brief time. It allows you more experience and a company name to place on your resume that you did work for. A Medical Transcriptionist can start out making anywhere from an average of $14 to $18 an hour in the first year up to $23.00 an hour + with several years of exp. This of course depends on your experience, typing speed and accuracy level. There are programs to help you increase your LPH (Lines per Hour).
TIP: Do not use silly email addresses for your contact information. Create a separate email address for just your MT business. You do not want to use your MT Business email for personal emails! Keep the two separate from one another. |
