o Medical Billing / Processing Insurance Claims - There is such a career as Medical Billing, however most of these type jobs are done in the actual Dr.'s Office, Hospitals, etc. Very few people actually are lucky enough to do this type position at home. (It is just the opposite with Medical Transcription, more work at home MT positions are opening up with the digital transcription technology) It is more expensive to employee people to work from their own homes doing Medical Billing for several reasons, if a claim is filled wrong it has to be re-filed which costs time and money as well as most of the Dr.'s would have to provide software for the at home employee to work on. The Dr.'s office has a code sheet for the in office Medical Biller to use when filing the claims electronically. o Companies that advertise to train people to work at home as Medical Billers with out letting them know that only a very small % get jobs at home are mis-leading the customer! o If a company is advertising this training program / software to train someone to do the Medical Billing in a Dr's office on-site then they are probably legit, but you still need to double check it out! o There are scams that are for a few hundred dollars that sell you a few disks that are suppose to have training and also list of Dr.s and Hospitals that will employee you at home. The catch is that it is NOT a training program and the Dr.'s and Hospitals do NOT know they are on the list because they only hire " IN OFFICE" Medical Billers. o The other type of scams are for Thousands of Dollars for Training and Medical Billing Software promising you work at home yet they do not hire you themselves which leaves the customers lost with no position at home and out of money and time, being SCAMMED! o See more about this subject at the BBB site located at; www.bbb.org/library/workathome Signs to watch out for to help avoid being scammed- 1. If they say you can make a lot of money in a short amount of time with No Experience! 2. Small job ads with NO Details about the job or a way to check into it, only a phone number or email address to contact them by. 3. Free Email accounts for companies / employees. 4. 900 #'s for contact numbers. 5. Ads with Email Processing, Envelope Stuffing, or Assembly listed in it. 6. Will not give detailed information about job position in writing. What to do if you get scammed: 1. Always pay by credit card when possible to better assist for refunds / dispute on scam. 2. Request Refund / Credit on your credit card. 3. Report them to your local BBB, Attorney General, and List on Scam Watch Sites such as scam busters. www.scambusters.com 4. Do a search on scam watch sites to find more information on posting on such sites if you have been scammed and want to warn others before they get burned as well. One final note on the subject of scams- A person / Company that is trying to scam you does NOT care how much $ they RIP YOU OFF for or the fact that they Crush your HOPES and DREAMS! Do not ever let a person / company pressures you to spend your money! If they are a legitimate company they will respect that you might need time to research, think about it, etc. Before I had my business I had gotten scammed and know personally how that feels. I do want to say not to give up on finding work at home positions. It does take self-motivation, discipline to make it working at home and if you have both of these along with experience in a certain field or willing to train or teach (cont)
