Text Box: It is very important when considering to work at home in Medical Transcription to take the time to research your options.  Working at home is not for everyone.  It takes self-discipline and being well organized to be able to both study at home and run a career from your home office.
There are many good Medical Transcription Schools on the Internet, the main thing is to make sure that they do offer digital transcription training.  Some schools still offer training in micro-cassette tapes which is pretty much obsolete in most places.   Very few physicians still use the micro-cassette tapes.  The digital method is preferred by most physicians and hospitals.  
The other thing is to consider if you are wanting to work at home Text Box: to be with your kids.  It is possible, however you must know that it does take being in a quiet environment to do the work of a Medical Transcriptionist.  This means that sometimes you might have to get a friend or family member to help you out with watching your little ones while you study and /or work from your home office.  
The dream of sitting on your couch and watching TV while you work is just that a dream.  Any career you do from your home does take work to be successful at it. 
 There are many benefits to working from your home office, one of the main ones will be the freedom of setting your own schedule.  You also Text Box: will save on office clothes, automobile wear and tear as well as all other expenses that come with an outside job.

Text Box: We get a lot of people asking what the difference is between a Medical Transcriptionist and a CMT.  
A Medical Transcriptionist is someone that has taken training to do medical transcription from either their home office or a Dr. Office.  Once you have worked for awhile as an MT then you can decide if you want to take your Text Box: career a little further to a CMT.  A CMT is when you have worked as a Medical Transcriptionist and then go through the AAMT for your testing to become a Certified Medical Transcriptionist. 
This is much like a Nurse going from a LVN to a RN.  There are different levels of training Text Box: that you can take for increasing your career skills.
There are many that do not move up to a CMT, however we feel that if you have the opportunity to increase your career level and you want to do so—then you should consider doing so.  For more information on becoming a Text Box: Difference between MT and CMT
