To be successful in working at home you must be self disciplined, self motivated, and well organized. Even though you can set your own hours, you must work the hours that you have scheduled to work just as you would in a job outside of your home.   It is important to be able to work with little direction because you will not have someone over your shoulder telling you how to get the work done.

Support from your family is also very important in working at home.  The reason for this is because when you are in your office, or work area getting your work done you will need to not be interrupted with things like "can you run to the store, or Mary is on the phone, etc." they need to understand that when you are working it is just as if you are at an office working. You need your space and your quiet time to get your work done.

You must like to type and not mind working in an environment that is just you in your home office.  If you are the type person that likes to be around a lot of other people during the work day then this type position at home might not be right for you.
Medical transcription requires not only the proper training, but also an investment in reference materials such as a Drug Reference Book, Proper Report Formats References, as well as continuing to learn the technology and terminology as it has changes over time.
