You may be wondering how the economy might affect the Medical Transcription Career Field.  As many of you already know these are some tough times for all of us across the country. More jobs are being lost every day and the prices of food seem to be rising, even with the gas prices lower than they were 6 months ago.  One of the wonderful things about Medical Transcription is that it is a career with in the health care industry.  Even with the economy problems people will still need to see physicians. There will be new babies born every day along with those that are sick or need labs or tests

career of Medical transcription look with the economy?

What every MT should have on their desk!

Working as an MT can be a wonderful career.  However, there are times that every MT needs a little help.  It is so important to transcribe the report correctly.  You might ask yourself if all headings should be in bold or where does the comma belong in a certain sentence.  Another big question is when to abbreviate a term or write the complete term out. 

This is where the following

reference books will come in real handy.

Every MT should have the following reference books on hand:

AAMT Book of Style (Now AHDI)

Electronic Medical Dictionary such as Stedmans or Dorlands.

Prescription Drug Reference Book.

If you are a student training for Medical Transcription

then we highly recommend getting the AAMT Student workbook to go along with the AAMT Book of style.

Another great reference book that we have found is—Medical Transcriptionist’s Desk Reference by: Carolyn Collins Gates.
