minutes of the patient’s visit trying to dictate the information into the system they are loosing time and money.

This is because it is not only the time they spend on dictating but also the time it takes to go back and check for accuracy and fix any errors.

It is a lot easier for the physician to dictate the information and then send to the MT to transcribe the report.

There has been a lot of talk about the EMR system and how it will come into play with the Medical Transcription career field.

The EMR system will be very beneficial for physicians when it comes to clicking on a diagnosis very easily and keeping the patient’s records organized and in one place.

However, many physicians are finding that they do not want to combine the SRT with the EMR system.

A lot of physicians that have tried this are finding that they are wasting precious time trying to dictate into a computer while the

patient is sitting in the room.

They are also finding that after they dictate the information they are having to go back and edit the mistakes that the computer software created.  Medical reports have to be accurate!

Most physicians are continuing to dictate their medical notes in digital format for the Medical Transcriptionist to then listen to and transcribe into the proper medical report.

The report can then be uploaded into their electronic  medical record system.

How using a Medical Text Expander can save you time and help you earn more money as an MT.

Exciting news about the EMR and Transcription.

®

Medical Text Expanders can increase your LPH (Lines per hour) by allowing you to transcribe more medical reports in less time.

You can save up to 60% of your typing time with the use of these type of programs.

Benefits of using a Text Expander:

· Save Time and Make More Money!

· Increase Production and Decrease Keystrokes

There are several expander programs out there, however we recommend Speed Type.  Their website is:

Many MTs find that using a text expander program when doing Medical Transcription not only saves them time, it also helps them earn more money.

Text Expanders can create templates for a simple term or for a full medical report template.  The way it works is that you will create a shortcut key and then create the phrase or report template it should type for you.

For example:

You could create a template for a SOAP report and name the shortcut “soap”. The Text Expander would then type the template that you created in a matter of seconds.  You would then fill in the blanks of the template from the dictation you are listening to.

MTatHome wishes everyone a very happy holiday season!  We have kept this issue very short with it being so close to Christmas.  However, we will have another issue coming out in January 2010.  We hope you enjoy our Medical Transcription Newsletters and are continuing to learn something new from each issue.

While we hope every has a very Merry Christmas, we hope that we all will remember what Christmas is really about. Try to  give the gift of helping out a friend or loved one in need.  Gifts do not always have to cost money!  This could be as simple as visiting with them or helping a person in need do their grocery shopping.

God Bless,  MTatHome
