watching TV while you work is just that a dream.  Any career you do from your home does take work to be successful at it.

There are many benefits to working from your home office, one of the main ones will be the freedom of setting your own schedule.  You also will save on office clothes, automobile wear and tear as well as all other expenses that come with an outside job.

There are many resources online that can be of use to both those taking training for Medical Transcription and those that are currently working as an MT.

It is very important when considering to work at home in Medical Transcription to take the time to research your options.  Working at home is not for everyone.  It takes self-discipline and being well organized to be able to both study at home and run a career from your home office.

There are many good Medical Transcription Schools on the Internet, the main thing is to make sure that they do offer digital transcription training.  Some schools still offer training in micro-cassette tapes which is pretty much obsolete in most places.
Very few physicians still use the micro-cassette tapes.  The

digital method is preferred by most physicians and hospitals.

The other thing is to consider why you are wanting to work at home.  If you are wanting to work at home to be with your kids.  It is possible, however you must know that it does take being in a quiet environment to do the work of a Medical Transcriptionist.  This means that sometimes you might have to get a friend or family member to help you out with watching your little ones while you study and /or work from your home office.

Difference between RMT and CMT

We get a lot of people asking what the difference is between a RMT and a CMT

There are different levels of the Medical Transcription Career that you can advance to.  The first step is to get your training in Medical Transcription.  Once you have your certificate and are working as an MT you can work towards the next level.

A Registered Medical

Transcriptionist (RMT) is one that is a Level 1 MT and has had proper training and is working as an MT and passed the RMT Exam.

You can take this exam through the AHDI testing facilities all over the USA.  MTs that want to take the RMT exam can be those that have finished their MT Training and are working as a New MT.  However, we do recommend to work at

least 6 months as an MT before attempting to take this exam.  There are also RMT review books online you can purchase to gain more practice and knowledge of what all an RMT needs to know.
