Working at home can be very rewarding, however it is important to know that with working at home comes both pros and cons. For example; when you are 1st starting out you might have a family member or friend that does not understand that you are working at a “real job” even if from your home. There are many cases where friends or family members will think you are not really working and expect you to be available at all times to run errands, take calls, etc. While working at home does give you freedom to set your own schedule you must also set guidelines of when you are working so that others will learn to respect your work time. You can do this by letting others know what times you are going to plan on working out of your home office. Set your voicemail to accept |

If you have one phone line some ISPs like AOL have a caller id system that shows you a call is coming in and who it is to allow you to decide to disconnect and answer or let go to voicemail. Once you set the guidelines and your family / friends see that you are serious about working from your home they will come around to respect your work time. It might take a little while for some people; yet it will happen. It just takes time for some to see that working at home is actually like working a real job. You will always have a handful of people that think unless you go to an office from 9 to 5 it is not a real job. For those type of people you will just have to learn to understand that was how they were brought up |

Medical Transcription will be around for a long time to come! There are some that worry that with the advancement in technology that it will go away. The technology is improving every year; however it does not have the brain that a human does. It cannot tell between one meaning and another when it comes down to the medical terminology. These documents are too important to allow any kind of mistakes by a computer to happen. Even the physicians that have chosen to use the Voice Recognition software to create the medical reports have found that they still need a real MT to proofread and edit the computer generated report. For those MTs that might be worried about being replaced by a fancy software system, please remember that you are still going to be needed. Many physicians have tried the computer software vs. a human MT and they most always come back to the MT’s for more accurate work. |
