Medical Transcription Editing
The medical transcription career field has changed over the
past few years with the evolving changes in both technology and the healthcare industry.

Medical transcription has been around for years. It dates back to the early
1960’s. Over time this
profession has evolved with the technology. Many years ago a medical transcriptionist would listen to the dictations on the current
audio device and type out the reports on the older typewriters. As computers became more popular the medical
transcriptionist (MT) would transcribe the reports on the computer system while listening to the dictation on
cassette tapes. Click Here for

Medical Transcription
Career - Getting your first job.
Tips on what you can do to help you get your first medical
transcription job sooner.

Most doctors and hospitals that advertise jobs on the Internet
will only post job ads for MTs with prior experience because when they have posted jobs for new MTs with no
experience in the past they've been flooded with resumes from all over the world for all types of
skills.
Many people see the word no experience and automatically send the
resume not even realizing what medical transcription is. They receive resumes for data entry, word
processing, etc.
These doctors’ offices simply do not have the
staff to sort through thousands of resumes that come in from one job ad.
Therefore when they have job openings for new MTs that have just finished their training they usually post this job
directly with the schools. Click

Medical Billing & Coding Career
Information
MTatHome now offers Medical Billing & Coding
classes.
One of the most common questions we are asked is: “What is the difference between medical
transcription and Medical Billing & coding?”
Medical transcription is when a doctor dictates notes for a
patient’s visit, symptoms, test results, operation, etc. into a digital audio file. The Medical Transcriptionist then listens
to this audio file while transcribing it (typing) into a medical report. Of course there is more to medical
transcription then just typing the report; MTs must know medical terminology, proper style & formats,
etc. in order to properly transcribe the report. They also must have excellent grammar and
proofreading skills. Most medical transcriptionist can work from home.
Medical Billing & Coding is normally done at the location of
the facility. Unlike
medical transcription, very few medical billers / coders work from home. This is because Medical Billing
& coding involves billing the insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid for services rendered. This
usually needs to be done from the hospital or doctor’s office. Click here to read the full article about the Medical
Billing and Coding Career.

Facial nerve
paralysis - Loss of voluntary movement of the muscles on one side of
the face due to abnormal function of the facial nerve (also known as the 7th cranial nerve) which supplies those
muscles. Facial nerve paralysis is also called Bell's palsy.
Familial
cylindromatosis - A genetic syndrome in which numerous benign tumors
of skin adnexa (such as the sweat glands) develop, principally on the head and neck. This disorder is inherited in
an autosomal manner and is caused by mutation of the CYLD gene on chromosome 16q12-q13. Mutation of CYLD has been
likened to having faulty brakes on a car. Instead of a pileup of cars, a pileup of cells results. Topical
application of aspirin, another type of brake on cell proliferation, may possibly be useful. Also called the turban
tumor syndrome.
